This came out pretty well, there's a little bit of trailing but not too much. Shots like these, without the use of an equatorial mount really push the D90 to its limits. It's still quite noisey, but that's almost unavoidable when I was trying to expose the surrounding trees as well.
Star missions are fun :)

8 April 2021: The number of patients being treated for Covid in intensive care during the third wave has reached a new high. Meanwhile the average number of new cases continues to fall. During the week from 29 March to 4 April an average of 4,243 people tested positive for SARCoV-2. The figure is down 12% on the week. 3,167 patients are currently in hospital with Covid. The figure is up 14% on the week. 893 are in intensive care. Yesterday, the EMA stated that a possible link was found between AstraZeneca’s vaccine and very rare cases of blood clotting. Although the European agency stressed that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks and that based on the current data, no specific risk factors (such as age or gender) could be identified, and therefore, did not recommend any measures such as an age limit, the Belgian government decided to suspend the use of AstraZeneca’s vaccine for people younger than 55. With this decision Belgium joins France in banning the use of AstraZeneca on under 55s. In Germany and the Netherlands the vaccine is reserved for over 60s. The minister of health claims that the impact of the decision on the rollout of the vaccination campaign will be minimal. On the other hand, I think that the decision means that I’ll have a couple of weeks more to document Ghent in all its facets – Gentbruggestraat, Ghent, Belgium
Fort Lauderdale is a city in the U.S. state of Florida, 25 miles (40 km) north of Miami. It is the county seat of Broward County. The forts took their name from Major William Lauderdale (1782–1838), younger brother of Lieutenant Colonel James Lauderdale. William Lauderdale was the commander of the detachment of soldiers who built the first fort. However, development of the city did not begin until 50 years after the forts were abandoned at the end of the conflict. Three forts named "Fort Lauderdale" were constructed; the first was at the fork of the New River, the second at Tarpon Bend on the New River between the Colee Hammock and Rio Vista neighborhoods, and the third near the site of the Bahia Mar Marina.
The area in which the city of Fort Lauderdale would later be founded was inhabited for more than two thousand years by the Tequesta Indians. Contact with Spanish explorers in the 16th century proved disastrous for the Tequesta, as the Europeans unwittingly brought with them diseases, such as smallpox, to which the native populations possessed no resistance. For the Tequesta, disease, coupled with continuing conflict with their Calusa neighbors, contributed greatly to their decline over the next two centuries. By 1763, there were only a few Tequesta left in Florida, and most of them were evacuated to Cuba when the Spanish ceded Florida to the British in 1763, under the terms of the Treaty of Paris (1763), which ended the Seven Years' War. Although control of the area changed between Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Confederate States of America, it remained largely undeveloped until the 20th century.
The Fort Lauderdale area was known as the "New River Settlement" before the 20th century. In the 1830s there were approximately 70 settlers living along the New River. William Cooley, the local Justice of the Peace, was a farmer and wrecker, who traded with the Seminole Indians. On January 6, 1836, while Cooley was leading an attempt to salvage a wrecked ship, a band of Seminoles attacked his farm, killing his wife and children, and the children's tutor. The other farms in the settlement were not attacked, but all the white residents in the area abandoned the settlement, fleeing first to the Cape Florida Lighthouse on Key Biscayne, and then to Key West.
The first United States stockade named Fort Lauderdale was built in 1838, and subsequently was a site of fighting during the Second Seminole War. The fort was abandoned in 1842, after the end of the war, and the area remained virtually unpopulated until the 1890s. It was not until Frank Stranahan arrived in the area in 1893 to operate a ferry across the New River, and the Florida East Coast Railroad's completion of a route through the area in 1896, that any organized development began. The city was incorporated in 1911, and in 1915 was designated the county seat of newly formed Broward County.
Fort Lauderdale's first major development began in the 1920s, during the Florida land boom of the 1920s. The 1926 Miami Hurricane and the Great Depression of the 1930s caused a great deal of economic dislocation. In July 1935, an African-American man named Rubin Stacy was accused of robbing a white woman at knife point. He was arrested and being transported to a Miami jail when police were run off the road by a mob. A group of 100 white men proceeded to hang Stacy from a tree near the scene of his alleged robbery. His body was riddled with some twenty bullets. The murder was subsequently used by the press in Nazi Germany to discredit US critiques of its own persecution of Jews, Communists, and Catholics.
When World War II began, Fort Lauderdale became a major US base, with a Naval Air Station to train pilots, radar operators, and fire control, operators. A Coast Guard base at Port Everglades was also established.
On July 4, 1961, African Americans started a series of protests, wade-ins, at beaches that were off-limits to them, to protest "the failure of the county to build a road to the Negro beach". On July 11, 1962, a verdict by Ted Cabot went against the city's policy of racial segregation of public beaches.
Today, Fort Lauderdale is a major yachting center, one of the nation's largest tourist destinations, and the center of a metropolitan division with 1.8 million people.

El caminito del Rey es un paso construído en las paredes del desfiladero de los Gaitanes, junto a la aldea de El Chorro, que sirve de límite entre los términos municipales de Ardales, Álora y Antequera, en la provincia de Málaga, comunidad autónoma de Andalucía, España. Se trata de una pasarela peatonal de más de 3 kilómetros, adosada a la roca en el interior de un cañón, con tramos de una anchura de apenas 1 metro, colgando hasta 105 metros de altura sobre el río, en unas paredes casi verticales. El paso del tiempo lo deteriorómucho: casi todo el recorrido carecía de barandilla y había segmentos derrumbados, quedando sólo la viga de soporte.
Todos estos factores han contribuido a crear una leyenda negra tras haber perdido la vida varios excursionistas tratando de cruzarlo.1 En 2014, se iniciaron obras para rehabilitarlo. Se construyó una nueva pasarela, con paneles de madera a lo largo de su recorrido. Los trabajos de rehabilitación finalizaron el primer trimestre de 2015, y se reabrió en marzo de este año, despertando gran expectación entre el público. Se pueden realizar excursiones previa reserva, y la Diputación de Málaga ha habilitado una página web para ese efecto.

En 1921 el rey Alfonso XIII presidió la inauguración de la presa del Conde del Guadalhorce, cruzando para ello el camino previamente construído, o al menos lo visitó. Desde entonces, se le empezó a llamar Caminito del Rey.

El paso del tiempo y la falta de mantenimiento hizo mella en el Caminito. En los años 90 presentaba un estado lamentable, con la barandilla desaparecida en casi todo su recorrido, numerosas secciones derruídas y las que quedaban amenazando con hacerlo. Precisamente su peligrosidad fue uno de los factores que contribuyó a su fama. Muchos excursionistas se dirigían a El Chorro para recorrer el Caminito. También su zona de escalada, una de las más importantes de Europa. Esto propició numerosos accidentes a lo largo de los años, algunos mortales, y acrecentó su leyenda negra.

También decretaron una multa de 6000€ por transitar tanto por el camino cortado,3 como por las vías y los túneles del tren por las que se puede volver del Caminito.4
La Diputación Provincial de Málaga, en colaboración con la Junta de Andalucía, incluyó en sus presupuestos del 2006 un plan de restauración.5 6 En enero de 2009 salió a concurso la redacción del proyecto para su reparación7 , con un presupuesto de 5 millones de euros.8

When is it:
Contest starts Tuesday October 29th, 2019 and ends Sunday November 10th , 2019. Winners will be announced on the flickr page and by group notice in world on no later then Wednesday November 13th, 2019.
The Rules:
1. All photos MUST be taken on the Eternal Island Girls Only Beach sim, and feature the theme "Beautiful Bikinis" in the photo.
2. Photos must be posted to the Eternal Island Flickr page, before midnight on the last day of the contest.
3. No males, no children, no porn.
4. Management reserves the right to remove photos they find offensive or that violate the rules.
5. You may take photos anywhere on the island, HOWEVER, if you see an Island owner at their private beach house please ask before you take photos there. If no one is there you are welcome to photograph freely.
6. If you rez props please take them with you when you leave.. ( sometimes returned items get lost in sl space, we are not responsible if this happens, it is up to you to clean your mess up or risk your items being returned).

It was a frosty morning along the Tuolumne River.
Photo taken with Nikon D600, Tokina 17-35 Pro FX F4 and Kenko Circular Polarizer. I took 9 images at one stop increments (RAW Format). To achieve this with the D600 I used auto-bracketing; it only takes 3 shot burst, so I set the 1st 3 at 3 stop increment, the 2nd 3 at 2 at stops, the 3rd 3 at 1 stop, to take a total of 9 images. I used a Nikon wireless shutter release to limit movement; I dropped it in the river that morning was lucky enough to snag it back out, shook it off and used it all day.
To achieve this dynamic range, color and effects: I use Lightroom 5.5 for workflow and final edit. I first used Photomatix Pro 4 to fuse all 9 images. Now using auto-bracketing I end up with 3 images with 0 stop adjustment because of the 3 shot burst. Photomatix will automatically adjust these to make all 9 images at whatever stop level you input, I set it for 1 stop increment. Once this is done I use Photmatix Fusion Preset to merge the 9 images together. It has many Presets, but this gives me the most natural effects. Once fused, I save in Tiff format to retain as much raw data as I can. I then use NIK Collection; Color Efex Pro 4. For this image I used its Pro Contrast adjustment; it improves the dynamic range and has one of the best Highlight and Shadow adjustments I’ve seen (even better than Lightroom’s). I do my final exposure, then tweak Clarity and Vibrance a bit in Lightroom 5.5 and save in jpg. My Logo (TI_in_Yosemite) is done in Gimp 2.8 and Layered onto the final image. TI_in_Yosemite stands for: Targeted Individual in Yosemite.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Bangkok, Thailand. Taken on the day of my flight back to Dubai (in the giant double decker Airbus A380 by the way! A very smooth journey in an awesome airplane).
6 exposures Digital Blending shot handheld, using my Nikkor Fisheye at f/2.8, and Auto ISO on the D300 with minimum shutter speed limited to 1/30s. Therefore the ISO for all the exposures varies from ISO 200 to 1600 (max. ISO also fixed by me), and the shutter speed never goes below 1/30s, therefore no need for a tripod in those conditions.
The manual blending with layer masks and paintbrushes was a bit tedious and it took me over 2 hours to process this shot.
Many thanks to my buddy Grant for telling me about this Auto ISO / Shutter Speed limit feature of the D300, which is really handy for handheld bracketed shots.

Some of us live like the truth will scare us to death or hurt too much. But it can't hurt nearly as much as avoiding the truth about yourself - the truth that continues to poison your relationships, limit your life, and bring you down. Someone may be your "mirror" that is irritating or painful to hear from. But God put those people in your life because He loves you too much to let you keep running from the truth that is costing you so much.
The Bible says, "Iron sharpens iron; so a friend sharpens the countenance of his friend." It may be that someone you might consider an enemy has said some things no one else would say to you about you. And while they mean to hurt you, there may be at least some mirror of truth in what they said.
The truth that might be painful never really goes away. Everywhere you go, you take you with you. God loves you too much to let you keep running, denying, and living a lie. So He's put someone in your life to hold up a mirror. Don't reject what the mirror is trying to show you. And don't blame the mirror - it's the message the mirror is trying to give you, not the messenger that's the issue.
Thank God for the mirror He's given you. The truth may be hard to face. It may mean opening up to someone who can really help you with it. It may mean removing a mask you've been hiding behind for a long time, but it's worth all that and more. Because it's the truth, and only the truth, that will finally set you free.

Avon Park is a city in Highlands County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 census the population was 8,836, and in 2018 the estimated population was 10,695. It is the oldest city in Highlands County, and was named after Stratford-upon-Avon, England.
The first permanent settler in Avon Park was Oliver Martin Crosby, a Connecticut native who moved to the area in 1884 to study the wildlife of the Everglades. By 1886, enough people had followed that the town of "Lake Forest" was founded. As president of the Florida Development Company, he recruited settlers to the area, many of whom were from England, including many from the town of Stratford-upon-Avon, who gave the town its name.
In 2006, then-mayor Thomas Macklin proposed City Ordinance 08-06, which would have blocked the issuance or renewal of city licenses to businesses that hired illegal aliens, fined any property owner who rented and leased property to illegal aliens, and established English as the city's official language, banning the use of other languages during the conduct of official business except where specified under state or federal law. The ordinance was defeated by the city council, on a 3–2 vote.
Avon Park is located in northwestern Highlands County at 27°35′40″N 81°30′12″W (27.594418, -81.503437). 27/98 is the main highway through the city, leading north 23 miles (37 km) to Lake Wales and south 10 miles (16 km) to Sebring. Florida State Road 17 (Main Street) leads east through the center of Avon Park, then south 10 miles to the center of Sebring. Florida State Road 64 leads west from Avon Park 19 miles (31 km) to Zolfo Springs.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Avon Park has a total area of 8.2 square miles (21.2 km2), of which 7.1 square miles (18.5 km2) are land and 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2), or 12.43%, are water.[3] The city is located in a karst landscape underlain by the limestone Florida Platform, and numerous circular lakes are either within the city limits (Lake Tulane, Lake Verona, and Lake Isis) or border the city (Lake Anoka, Lake Lelia, Lake Glenada, Lake Lotela, Lake Denton, Little Red Water Lake, Pioneer Lake, Lake Brentwood, Lake Byrd, Lake Damon, and Lake Lillian).

Viaje de 8 días por Ethiopia. Empezamos por el Norte, el desierto, la Depresión de Danakil, el lugar más caluroso del planeta, dominado por la etnia Afar, para posteriormente bajar al Sur, la sabana, verde, el Valle del Rio Omo, visitando diferentes etnias: Dorze, Konso, Dassanech y Hamer. Extenuante pero corto, muy corto.
Ethiopia (Abisinia, el Reino de Saba en la Biblia) es un lugar inhóspito y no preparado para el turismo y debes contar con una agencia que organice tu aventura (yo fui con Karibu, www.kaett.com). Ethiopia limita con países en conflicto y en los desplazamientos por el Norte, el desierto, Danakil, estarás acompañado por policía o milicianos armados, además de guía, cocinero, pinche y conductores.
Primer día, llegamos mi mujer y yo, a primeros de Mayo, época no turística debido al calor, a Addis Ababa, con Ethiopian Airlines, para enlazar con un vuelo regional a Makele. En Makele montamos en 4x4 para desplazarnos a Dallol, zona desértica con temperaturas de noche 26 y día 45ºC. Dormimos de acampada, al aire libre sobre camastros, junto con todos nuestros acompañantes, el viento y millones de estrellas. El calor, agobiante, Mayo no es el mejor mes para visitar Danakil. Antes de dormir vislumbramos las caravanas de camellos trasportando la sal depositada en el desierto al secarse un mar interior miles de años atrás. También visitamos las salinas infinitas, disfrutamos de una puesta de Sol con reflejos, única.
El segundo día visitamos la Puerta del Infierno, una zona donde la tierra expulsa compuestos de azufre continuamente y donde se han generado unos cráteres freáticos únicos en el mundo, de una extraordinaria belleza y colorido. Andábamos sobre cristales de azufre y óxidos metálicos que crujían bajo nuestros pies. Al terminar la jornada las zapatillas habían pasado a mejor vida. Siempre acompañados por un Kalashnikova AK 47. Llegar hasta allí en un 4x4 sobre las salinas infinitas, con 20 cm de agua sobre la superficie y a 10 km/h durante 2 o 3 hrs, sin llegar nunca, sin ver fondo bajo las ruedas, es uno de los muchos gratos recuerdos que nos ha proporcionado esta superaventura. Más tarde visitamos a los Afar durante su trabajo diario, cortar bloques de sal de 30x40x8 cm que se cargarán sobre los camellos para transportarlos en caravanas infinitas. Aquí todo es infinito. Trabajan bajo un Sol abrasador, pero aunque el Gobierno les ofrece mecanizar la explotación, los Afar no lo permiten, temen perder su forma de vida. Ya no sé dónde dormimos, quizás en Dodhom, donde mataron un cabrito para cenar.
El tercer día pretendíamos subir por la noche al Erta Ale, volcán activo con una caldera de magma en ebullición. Al llegar al campo base para gestionar permisos y más y más acompañantes, las temperaturas habían subido a 52ºC. Esta es la zona más caliente de la Tierra y el espesor de la corteza terrestre es el más estrecho de todos los continentes. De hecho esta es la zona del Rift, donde el cuerno de África se escindirá del continente en algunos miles de años. Estamos 110m por debajo del nivel del mar. Mi mujer sufrió un pequeño golpe de calor mientras tratábamos de comer algo a 52ºC y por prudencia descartamos subir al Arte Ale, lo dejamos, o mejor dicho, lo dejaré para un próximo viaje. Se suben 10Km andando por la noche durante unas 4 horas y se duerme en la caldera, tomando fotos del magma durante la noche, para bajar a primera hora de la mañana, antes de que el Sol abrase.. Así las cosas, decidimos volver a Makele (necesitábamos hotel y descanso) pero de camino visitamos un pequeño lago encantador, quizás el lago Bakili, junto a las salinas, dado que el cambio de planes no nos permitiría ya visitar el Lago Afdera de aguas color esmeralda.
El cuarto día, improvisando, desde Makele hicimos una visita a una de las miles iglesias en Ethiopia excavadas en la roca, donde el prior nos abrió y atendió con sumo cariño, y posteriormente visitamos la Misión del Padre Ángel, amigo Vasco que realiza una labor extraordinaria en la zona. El Padre Ángel (www. Angelolaran.com) aparenta muchos más años de los que tiene, eso es debido sin duda a una larga vida de sufrimiento. Nos invitó a comer en la misión pero tuvimos que descartarlo para volver a Makele y tomar vuelo a Addis Ababa, también queda pendiente para un próximo viaje. A la vuelta enviamos un donativo a la Misión, ese país y Ángel necesitan de toda nuestra ayuda.
Quinto día, desde Addis Ababa tomamos un 4x4 para desplazarnos hacia el Sur, rico en Etnias, poblados, tribus, que nos iban a enamorar. Ni que decir tiene que a estas alturas ya me había convertido en un maestro de la fotografía en desplazamiento, a 80 Km/h en 4x4 se obtienen, a 1/2000s, unas fotografías impagables, las carreteras están llenas de vida y de color. Por la tarde llegamos a Arba Minch, donde habitan los Dorze, a una cota de 3.200m , en sus casas de bambú. Las chozas, de unos 40m2 pueden incluso transportarse con ayuda de 60 personas cuando las termitas se comen la base de sus troncos. Tienen la apariencia de la cabeza de un elefante. Esa noche dormimos en el Paradise Lodge, recomendable, en una cabaña con vistas a los lagos Abaya y Chamo. Estábamos muertos, no hice fotos de la vía láctea y no me lo perdonaré nunca, pero conseguí unos amaneceres únicos.
Sexto día, de nuevo en 4x4 y 1/2000s. Nos desplazamos a las tierras altas donde habita la Etnia Konso, en el rio Segen. Los Konso son la tribu más organizada y han sido reconocidos como Patrimonio de la Humanidad por Unesco. Un ejemplo, la piedra de la verdad, donde ante el Consejo del Pueblo ningún vecino se atrevería a mentir influenciado por un temor ancestral a sufrir los peores males como consecuencia de mentir mientras se está de pie sobre esa piedra. La visita a su poblado es indescriptible, una sociedad muy avanzada con un nivel jerárquico bien asumido y una socialización envidiable. Después, desplazamiento a la zona de Turmi, donde empezamos a cruzarnos con los Hamer, pintados con barro en el pelo y acompañados de collares de conchas. Dormimos en el Busca Lodge, con generador eléctrico que arranca de 6 a 9, eso sí, por la mañana y por la noche.
Séptimo día, cruzando el rio Omo en piragua (tronco de árbol vaciado) para visitar a los nómadas Dassanech. ¡Qué encanto!. Nos recibieron con sus bailes y pasamos la mañana de su mano, sí, nos llevaban de la mano mientras nos enseñaban su poblado. Sus poblados se caracterizan por el uso de chapa de lata para cubrir sus chozas, ese material que les han traído los Dioses les permite que la vida de su choza se alargue por varios años, además de mantenerlas secas, maravillas de la tecnología. Unos globos y caramelos son el regalo más apreciado por los niños. Por la tarde visita al mercado de Turmi, donde los Hamer y otras tribus se dan cita para intercambiar sus productos (grano, ganado, madera trabajada,...). Más tarde, casi a la puesta de Sol visitamos un poblado Hamer. De chozas con vallado para los animales. Igual de encantadores que los Dassenech, solo nos atendieron los niños, los adultos vienen andando desde el mercado de Turmi. Los niños te piden 5 Birs por cada foto que les haces (íbamos armados con fajos de billetes de 5, claro), el capitalismo está llegando para quedarse. Sonrisas y bromas continuamente, inolvidable. De nuevo al hotel con acotado horario para la ducha.
Octavo día, 4x4 a Arba Minch y vuelo regional a Addis Ababa, con shopping y cena étnica para tomar vuelo de nuevo para Madrid (Ida y vuelta nocturna).
Algún bajón de tensión, golpes de calor, catarros por el A/A del 4x4, diarrea (posiblemente el contacto con los billetes viejos contaminados con todo tipo de gérmenes), pero desde ya, contando ansioso los días que faltan para volver de nuevo. Bendita África pura.

Fort Lauderdale is a city in the U.S. state of Florida, 28 miles (45 km) north of Miami. It is the county seat of Broward County. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 165,521. It is a principal city of the Miami metropolitan area, which was home to an estimated 6,012,331 people at the 2015 census.
The city is a popular tourist destination, with an average year-round temperature of 75.5 °F (24.2 °C) and 3,000 hours of sunshine per year. Greater Fort Lauderdale which takes in all of Broward County hosted 12 million visitors in 2012, including 2.8 million international visitors. The city and county in 2012 collected $43.9 million from the 5% hotel tax it charges, after hotels in the area recorded an occupancy rate for the year of 72.7 percent and an average daily rate of $114.48. Fort Lauderdale is named after a series of forts built by the United States during the Second Seminole War. The forts took their name from Major William Lauderdale (1782–1838), younger brother of Lieutenant Colonel James Lauderdale. William Lauderdale was the commander of the detachment of soldiers who built the first fort. However, development of the city did not begin until 50 years after the forts were abandoned at the end of the conflict. Three forts named "Fort Lauderdale" were constructed; the first was at the fork of the New River, the second at Tarpon Bend on the New River between the Colee Hammock and Rio Vista neighborhoods, and the third near the site of the Bahia Mar Marina.
The area in which the city of Fort Lauderdale would later be founded was inhabited for more than two thousand years by the Tequesta Indians. Contact with Spanish explorers in the 16th century proved disastrous for the Tequesta, as the Europeans unwittingly brought with them diseases, such as smallpox, to which the native populations possessed no resistance. For the Tequesta, disease, coupled with continuing conflict with their Calusa neighbors, contributed greatly to their decline over the next two centuries. By 1763, there were only a few Tequesta left in Florida, and most of them were evacuated to Cuba when the Spanish ceded Florida to the British in 1763, under the terms of the Treaty of Paris (1763), which ended the Seven Years' War. Although control of the area changed between Spain, United Kingdom, the United States, and the Confederate States of America, it remained largely undeveloped until the 20th century.
The Fort Lauderdale area was known as the "New River Settlement" before the 20th century. In the 1830s there were approximately 70 settlers living along the New River. William Cooley, the local Justice of the Peace, was a farmer and wrecker, who traded with the Seminole Indians. On January 6, 1836, while Cooley was leading an attempt to salvage a wrecked ship, a band of Seminoles attacked his farm, killing his wife and children, and the children's tutor. The other farms in the settlement were not attacked, but all the white residents in the area abandoned the settlement, fleeing first to the Cape Florida Lighthouse on Key Biscayne, and then to Key West.
The first United States stockade named Fort Lauderdale was built in 1838, and subsequently was a site of fighting during the Second Seminole War. The fort was abandoned in 1842, after the end of the war, and the area remained virtually unpopulated until the 1890s. It was not until Frank Stranahan arrived in the area in 1893 to operate a ferry across the New River, and the Florida East Coast Railroad's completion of a route through the area in 1896, that any organized development began. The city was incorporated in 1911, and in 1915 was designated the county seat of newly formed Broward County.
Fort Lauderdale's first major development began in the 1920s, during the Florida land boom of the 1920s. The 1926 Miami Hurricane and the Great Depression of the 1930s caused a great deal of economic dislocation. In July 1935, an African-American man named Rubin Stacy was accused of robbing a white woman at knife point. He was arrested and being transported to a Miami jail when police were run off the road by a mob. A group of 100 white men proceeded to hang Stacy from a tree near the scene of his alleged robbery. His body was riddled with some twenty bullets. The murder was subsequently used by the press in Nazi Germany to discredit US critiques of its own persecution of Jews, Communists, and Catholics.
When World War II began, Fort Lauderdale became a major US base, with a Naval Air Station to train pilots, radar operators, and fire control operators. A Coast Guard base at Port Everglades was also established.
On July 4, 1961 African Americans started a series of protests, wade-ins, at beaches that were off-limits to them, to protest "the failure of the county to build a road to the Negro beach". On July 11, 1962 a verdict by Ted Cabot went against the city's policy of racial segregation of public beaches.
Today, Fort Lauderdale is a major yachting center, one of the nation's largest tourist destinations, and the center of a metropolitan division with 1.8 million people.

After an afternoon layover in Jim Thorpe, T-1 #2102 exits the yard limits at Jim Thorpe Jct. headed back for Reading.
O Monte Farinha eleva-se, a um altitude de cerca de mil metros, ostentando no topo a venerada ermida de Nossa Senhora da Graça. Local mágico e cativante recheado de história e de vestígios arqueológicos, de lendas e de tradições. Local privilegiado para os amantes da natureza e emblemática referência desportiva, é destino obrigatório dos caminhos da fé, da religião e do turismo nacional e internacional.

Mondim de Basto é um município português pertencente ao Distrito de Vila Real, região Norte. É um município com 171,87 km² de área, subdividido em 8 freguesias. O município é limitado a nordeste pelo município de Ribeira de Pena, a sueste por Vila Real, a sudoeste por Amarante, a oeste por Celorico de Basto e a noroeste por Cabeceiras de Basto.
Vila e sede de concelho, Mondim de Basto repousa numa chã fértil na margem esquerda do rio Tâmega e no sopé da grandiosa pirâmide verde do Monte Farinha, coroado pela ermida da Senhora da Graça.

Fort Lauderdale is named after a series of forts built by the United States during the Second Seminole War. The forts took their name from Major William Lauderdale (1782–1838), younger brother of Lieutenant Colonel James Lauderdale. William Lauderdale was the commander of the detachment of soldiers who built the first fort. However, development of the city did not begin until 50 years after the forts were abandoned at the end of the conflict. Three forts named "Fort Lauderdale" were constructed; the first was at the fork of the New River, the second at Tarpon Bend on the New River between the Colee Hammock and Rio Vista neighborhoods, and the third near the site of the Bahia Mar Marina.
The area in which the city of Fort Lauderdale would later be founded was inhabited for more than two thousand years by the Tequesta Indians. Contact with Spanish explorers in the 16th century proved disastrous for the Tequesta, as the Europeans unwittingly brought with them diseases, such as smallpox, to which the native populations possessed no resistance. For the Tequesta, disease, coupled with continuing conflict with their Calusa neighbors, contributed greatly to their decline over the next two centuries. By 1763, there were only a few Tequesta left in Florida, and most of them were evacuated to Cuba when the Spanish ceded Florida to the British in 1763, under the terms of the Treaty of Paris (1763), which ended the Seven Years' War. Although control of the area changed between Spain, United Kingdom, the United States, and the Confederate States of America, it remained largely undeveloped until the 20th century.
The Fort Lauderdale area was known as the "New River Settlement" before the 20th century. In the 1830s there were approximately 70 settlers living along the New River. William Cooley, the local Justice of the Peace, was a farmer and wrecker, who traded with the Seminole Indians. On January 6, 1836, while Cooley was leading an attempt to salvage a wrecked ship, a band of Seminoles attacked his farm, killing his wife and children, and the children's tutor. The other farms in the settlement were not attacked, but all the white residents in the area abandoned the settlement, fleeing first to the Cape Florida Lighthouse on Key Biscayne, and then to Key West.
The first United States stockade named Fort Lauderdale was built in 1838, and subsequently was a site of fighting during the Second Seminole War. The fort was abandoned in 1842, after the end of the war, and the area remained virtually unpopulated until the 1890s. It was not until Frank Stranahan arrived in the area in 1893 to operate a ferry across the New River, and the Florida East Coast Railroad's completion of a route through the area in 1896, that any organized development began. The city was incorporated in 1911, and in 1915 was designated the county seat of newly formed Broward County.
Fort Lauderdale's first major development began in the 1920s, during the Florida land boom of the 1920s. The 1926 Miami Hurricane and the Great Depression of the 1930s caused a great deal of economic dislocation. In July 1935, an African-American man named Rubin Stacy was accused of robbing a white woman at knife point. He was arrested and being transported to a Miami jail when police were run off the road by a mob. A group of 100 white men proceeded to hang Stacy from a tree near the scene of his alleged robbery. His body was riddled with some twenty bullets. The murder was subsequently used by the press in Nazi Germany to discredit US critiques of its own persecution of Jews, Communists, and Catholics.
When World War II began, Fort Lauderdale became a major US base, with a Naval Air Station to train pilots, radar operators, and fire control, operators. A Coast Guard base at Port Everglades was also established.
On July 4, 1961, African Americans started a series of protests, wade-ins, at beaches that were off-limits to them, to protest "the failure of the county to build a road to the Negro beach". On July 11, 1962, a verdict by Ted Cabot went against the city's policy of racial segregation of public beaches.
Today, Fort Lauderdale is a major yachting center, one of the nation's largest tourist destinations, and the center of a metropolitan division with 1.8 million people.

The Ruhr is a river in western Germany (North Rhine-Westphalia), a right tributary (east-side) of the Rhine.
Description and history
The source of the Ruhr is near the town of Winterberg in the mountainous Sauerland region, at an elevation of approximately 670 metres (2,200 ft). It flows into the lower Rhine at an elevation of only 17 metres (56 ft) in the municipal area of Duisburg. Its total length is 219 km (136 mi), its average discharge is 79 cubic metres per second (2,800 cu ft/s) at Mülheim near its mouth. Thus, its discharge is, for example, comparable to that of the river Ems in Northern Germany or the River Thames in the United Kingdom.
The Ruhr first passes the towns of Meschede, Arnsberg, Wickede, Fröndenberg, Holzwickede, Iserlohn, and Schwerte. Then the river marks the southern limit of the Ruhr area, passing Hagen, Dortmund, Herdecke, Wetter, Witten, Bochum, Hattingen, Essen, Mülheim, and Duisburg.
The Ruhr area was Germany's primary industrial area during the early- to mid-20th century. Most factories were located there. The occupation of the Ruhr from 1923 to 1924 by French forces, due to the Weimar Republic's failure to continue paying reparations from World War I, provoked passive resistance, which saw production in the factories grind to a halt. As a result, the German hyperinflation crisis grew even worse.
During World War II, two of the dams on the Ruhr, the Möhne Dam and the Sorpe Dam were targets for Operation Chastise, in which special "bouncing bombs" were developed to take out the dams and flood the valley, with the hope of seriously affecting the German industries there. The story was told in a 1951 book and the popular 1955 film made from it, The Dam Busters.

Die Ruhr ist ein 219,3 km langer, rechter und östlicher Nebenfluss des Rheins in Nordrhein-Westfalen (Deutschland) mit einem Einzugsgebiet von 4485 km².
Der Fluss verläuft über rund 124 km auf dem Gebiet des Regionalverbands Ruhr und gab dem Ruhrgebiet als größter Agglomeration Deutschlands seinen Namen. Dieser erklärt sich daraus, dass die Industrialisierung im ausgehenden 18. Jahrhundert im Bereich des Flusses, wo die Kohle dicht unter der Erdoberfläche gelagert ist, begann.
Eine wichtige wirtschaftliche Bedeutung des Flusses liegt heute in der Trink- und Brauchwasserversorgung des Ruhrgebiets, für die der Ruhrverband zuständig ist, sowie in der Energiegewinnung. Im 19. Jahrhundert war die Ruhr zeitweilig die meistbefahrene Wasserstraße Deutschlands. Gegenwärtig findet Güterverkehr nur noch auf den letzten zwölf Flusskilometern zwischen dem Mülheimer Rhein-Ruhr-Hafen und dem Rhein statt. Das Tal der Ruhr ist ein Naherholungsgebiet für die Metropolregion Rhein-Ruhr.
Im Unterlauf beträgt die mittlere Abflussmenge der Ruhr am Pegel Mülheim 76 m³/s.[3] Der von wasserwirtschaftlichen Maßnahmen unbeeinflusste, natürliche Abfluss beträgt an der Mündung im Mittel 81,6 m³/s; nach diesen Werten ist die Ruhr nach ihrer Wasserführung der sechstgrößte Nebenfluss des Rheins.

Die Ruhr entspringt im hochsauerländischen Teil des Rothaargebirges auf dem Nordosthang des im Naturpark Sauerland-Rothaargebirge liegenden Ruhrkopfes (695,7 m ü. NN). Die dortige Ruhrquelle befindet sich etwa 3 km nordöstlich von Winterberg und 1,5 km nordwestlich von dessen Stadtteil Elkeringhausen in einem morastigen Bereich auf etwa 674 m Höhe. Etwas unterhalb davon durchfließt das Quellwasser ein kleines Steinrondell (666,5 m).
Oberhalb der Quelle verläuft über den Ruhrkopf die Rhein-Weser-Wasserscheide: Während die Ruhr in den westlich gelegenen Rhein mündet, fließt das Wasser der kurzen Bäche, die auf dem Südosthang des Ruhrkopfes entspringen, durch die etwas weiter östlich am Reetsberg quellende und überwiegend ostwärts verlaufende Orke und dann durch die Eder und Fulda letztlich nordostwärts in die Weser.
Die Kilometrierung der Ruhr bezieht sich weder auf die eigentliche Ruhrquelle noch auf das vorgenannte Steinrondell, sondern auf die Quelle eines etwa 200 m langen Ruhr-Zuflusses. Sie beginnt rund 180 m ostsüdöstlich des Rondells auf 667 m Höhe, wobei eine Flusslänge von 219,3 km angegeben ist. Der Ruhrquelle entspringt allerdings nicht der längste Quellast: Sowohl der bei Ruhrkilometer 6,7 von rechts einmündende Hillebach, der 7,7 km lang ist, als auch die nach 16,8 km des Ruhrlaufes von links einmündende Neger, die 17,7 km lang ist (mit Namenlose 20,3 km), sind wasserreicher und länger.
Verlauf und Orte am Fluss
Die Ruhr fließt, mit Ausnahme der ersten zwanzig Kilometer, im Wesentlichen in Ost-West-Richtung; dabei wird sie beidseitig von Gebirgszügen des Rheinischen Schiefergebirges begrenzt.
Aus dem im Naturpark Rothaargebirge liegenden Quellbereich fließt die Ruhr zunächst nach Norden entlang der Bundesstraße 480 auf den Naturpark Arnsberger Wald zu, vor dem sie bei Olsberg in Richtung Westen abbiegt. Nach Olsberg schließen sich im Norden die südlichen Berge des zuletzt genannten Naturparks an, der bis in das Tal des Flusses reicht. Innerhalb der Gemeindegebiete von Bestwig und Meschede fließt das Ruhrwasser südlich des Hainbergs am dortigen Naturschutzgebiet vorbei weiter in Richtung Westen nach Arnsberg, dem Sitz der Bezirksregierung.
Weiter nordwestlich, zwischen Ense und Wickede (Ruhr), erreicht der Fluss die Südseite des Haarstrangs, knickt bei Wickede nach Westen ab und fließt von nun an zwischen dem Haarstrang und den Höhen des Sauerlandes nach Westen, vorbei an Fröndenberg/Ruhr, Menden (Sauerland), Holzwickede, Iserlohn und Schwerte. Auf der Strecke vor dem Haarstrang hat die Ruhr den größten Teil des von ihr zu überwindenden Gesamthöhenunterschiedes bereits hinter sich. Bei Fröndenberg hat der Fluss noch eine Höhe von 123 m ü. NN.
Das Gebiet Dortmunds reicht im Süden am steilen Hang des Ardey bis an die Ruhr. Die südlichen Stadtteile haben sich vielfach zu bevorzugten Wohnlagen entwickelt, so auch Syburg. Dort liegt hoch über der Ruhr jenes Bauwerk, mit dem Dortmund erste geschichtliche Erwähnung fand: die Hohensyburg. Am gegenüberliegenden Ufer, auf dem Stadtgebiet Hagens münden die Lenne und die Volme in die Ruhr. Mit der aus Süden kommenden Lenne nimmt die Ruhr hier ihren größten Nebenfluss auf, durch den sich ihr mittleres Abflussvolumen von 30 auf 55 Kubikmeter pro Sekunde fast verdoppelt. Kurz darauf passiert die Ruhr mit dem Hengsteysee den ersten großen Ruhrstausee, der vom Ruhrverband gebaut wurde und betrieben wird.
Herdeckes Zentrum befindet sich über einer Flussschleife, genau zwischen dem Hengstey- und dem Harkortsee, an dessen rechtem Ufer Wetter liegt. Durch ihre direkte Lage am Fluss waren Wetter und das etwas ruhrabwärts gelegene Witten wichtige Zentren der frühen Industrialisierung des Ruhrgebietes.
Am Harkortsee macht die Ruhr einen markanten Bogen um einen Ausläufer des Ardeygebirges, um schließlich weiter durch das südliche Ruhrgebiet zu fließen. In Bochum stehen die Gebäude der Ruhr-Universität auf den Höhen über dem Kemnader See. Nahe bei Hattingen führt seit Jahrhunderten eine Brücke über den Fluss, die lange vom Hilinciweg genutzt wurde. Erst 2002 wurde fast an derselben Stelle eine neue Brücke in Richtung Bochum errichtet.
Von Dahlhausen nach Essen-Steele wendet sich die Ruhr nach Westen, fließt dann wieder südwestwärts um Essen-Überruhr herum durch den Baldeneysee, tangiert Essen-Werden, das mit seinem Kloster bis 1803 eine selbständige Reichsabtei war und seit dem 1. August 1929 zur Stadt Essen gehört, und wendet sich hinter dem Kettwiger See wieder nach Nordwesten. Kettwig (seit 1975 Stadtteil von Essen) hat einen historischen Fachwerkkern. Kettwigs Ruhrbrücke wurde 1282 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Die südlichen Stadtteile Essens liegen auf etwa 30 Kilometer Länge an der Ruhr.
Leinpfad mit Uferbebauung in Mülheim an der Ruhr
Bei der historischen Furt des Hellwegs in Mülheim an der Ruhr, nahe Schloss Broich, erreicht der Fluss das Niederrheinische Tiefland und ändert seinen Lauf ein letztes Mal in der Hauptrichtung nach Westen. Mülheim ist die einzige Stadt im Ruhrgebiet, deren Innenstadt vom Fluss durchquert wird. Der Rumbach mündet als letzter nennenswerter Zufluss in unmittelbarer Nähe der Mülheimer Innenstadt von rechts. Oberhausen wird lediglich an der Südgrenze des Stadtteils Alstaden vom Fluss berührt, bevor die Ruhr Duisburg erreicht, wo sie nördlich des Stadtzentrums in die Duisburg-Ruhrorter Häfen übergeht.
Mündung
Nachdem das Ruhrwasser etwa 160 Brücken unterquert hat, mündet der Fluss auf 20,2 m ü. NN bei Duisburg-Ruhrort in den Rhein. Die Ruhrmündung liegt bei Rheinkilometer 780 und ist durch die Landmarke Rheinorange gekennzeichnet. Diese 25 m hohe Stahlbramme stammt von dem Kölner Bildhauer Lutz Fritsch und wurde 1992 in Duisburg-Neuenkamp errichtet.
Geologische Entwicklung
An der Wasserscheide des Rothaargebirges, wo die Ruhr ihren Ursprung hat, entspringen etliche Nebengewässer der oberen und mittleren Ruhr. Die Quelle der Namenlose beispielsweise liegt in nur rund 1,5 km Entfernung von der Ruhrquelle entfernt, um sich dann über die Neger unterhalb von Siedlinghausen am Rande des Rothaargebirges mit der Ruhr zu vereinen. Von der Ruhrquelle bis zum Ursprung ihres größten Nebenflusses, der Lenne, beträgt die Distanz nur 8 km. Der hohe Kamm des Rothaargebirges ist in der Erdgeschichte weiter aufgefaltet worden und bis heute erosionsbeständiger als die übrigen Bereiche des umgebenden Mittelgebirges, durch das die Ruhr und ihre Nebenflüsse das Wasser nach Süden ableiten.
Bereits nach Verlassen des Rothaargebirges bei Olsberg hat die Ruhr etwa die Hälfte des bis zum Rhein bestehenden Höhenunterschiedes überwunden. Dabei wird das Ruhrtal von bis zu 400 m höheren Kuppen des Mittelgebirges überragt. Die runden Wölbungen der Berge des Sauerlandes sind die nach langer Erosion entstandenen Überbleibsel eines Gebirges, das im Paläozoikum und Mesozoikum entstanden ist. Die Täler wurden hier seit dem Tertiär und Quartär ausgewaschen.
In ihrem Mittellauf im Niedersauerland durchfließt die Ruhr ein 100 bis 200 m in das Bergland eingeschnittenes Sohltal. Das mittlere Ruhrtal zeigt dabei eine mehrstufige Terrassenlandschaft, die im Verlauf der wechselnden Vereisungen während des Pleistozän ausgebildet worden ist. Während der Drenthestadien der Saaleeiszeit reichte die Vergletscherung Norddeutschlands bis an die Ruhr vor dem Nordrand des Mittelgebirges heran. Die Oberflächengestalt des mittleren und unteren Ruhrtals wurde damals vom abfließenden Schmelzwasser und von der schiebenden Kraft des Eises geformt. Die Schmelzwasser des Gletschers strömten durch das Ruhrtal nach Westen. Zeitweilig war der Abfluss durch eine Barriere aus Eismassen und Geröll beim heutigen Essen behindert, so dass ein gewaltiger eiszeitlicher See aufgestaut wurde, der das Tal noch beim heutigen Schwerte füllte. Der Ost-West-Verlauf des Ruhrtals sammelt in der Gegenwart überwiegend das vom südlich gelegenen Mittelgebirge herangeführte Wasser.
Die letzten Kilometer der Ruhr und ihre Mündung liegen im Niederrheinischen Tiefland. In der Ebene hat sich der Lauf des Flusses, wie auch der des Rheins, mit der Zeit immer wieder verlagert. Zuletzt jedoch hat der Mensch die Mündung verändert und ihre vorläufig endgültige Position bestimmt.

Nelson is a census-designated place in Clark County, Nevada, United States. The community is in the Pacific Standard Time zone. The location of Nelson is in El Dorado Canyon, Eldorado Mountains. The town is in the southeast region of the Eldorado Valley. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 37. Nelson is located along Nevada State Route 165, about 8 miles (13 km) southeast of its junction with U.S. Route 95. Route 165 continues east 5 miles (8 km) to a dead end at Nelsons Landing on the Colorado River, 18 miles (29 km) by water north of Cottonwood Cove on Lake Mojave. Nelson is about 25 miles (40 km) from Boulder City by road. The area known as Nelson was originally called Eldorado in 1775, by the Spaniards who made the original discoveries of gold in the area that is now Eldorado Canyon. The town was the site of one of the first major gold strikes in Nevada and one of the biggest mining booms in state history. Gold and silver were discovered here around 1859. The rush to the canyon began in 1861, several mining camps were established in the canyon, and a steamboat landing at the mouth of the canyon on the Colorado River, called Colorado City. In its heyday, the area established a reputation for being rough and lawless. During the American Civil War, deserters from both the Union and Confederate armies would wander there, hoping that such an isolated location would be the last place military authorities would look for them. Among the early mines established was the notorious Techatticup Mine in the middle of the canyon. Disagreements over ownership, management and labor disputes resulted in wanton killings so frequent as to be routine and ordinary. Despite the sinister reputation of the mine, it along with others in the town produced several million dollars in gold, silver, copper and lead. The mines in the canyon were active from about 1858 until 1945. The community called Nelson was named for Charles Nelson, a camp leader who was slain in his home, along with four other people, in 1897 by the renegade Indian, Avote. Between, 1901 and 1905 the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad was built across southern Nevada, through Las Vegas, to Daggett, California where it connected to the AT&SF, and the complete Salt Lake–Los Angeles line was opened on May 1, 1905. This nearby railhead ended the need for steamboats at Eldorado Canyon, the landing and the mill there were abandoned. The town of Nelson was born near the head of the canyon nearest the road to the railroad, the post office of Eldorado was closed on August 31, 1907 and moved to Nelson. The mines and the landing are accessible through the town of Nelson off US 95 about 25 miles southwest of Las Vegas. Much of Nelson, which was not impacted by the 1974 flood, remains today and is located near the top of the wash, away from the flood channels. The sparsely populated community consists mainly of privately owned ranch houses, and a river and mining tour business housed in a former Texaco gas station, north of the road from the Techatticup Mine, that has been used as a filming location for several feature films, including 3000 Miles to Graceland. The fate of Nelson's Landing is a warning to visitors to this region who should watch for conditions leading to flash flooding. They should also be cautious of open mines and ventilation shafts.

El Dorado Canyon is a canyon in southern Clark County, Nevada famed for its rich silver and gold mines. The canyon was named in 1857 by steamboat entrepreneur Captain George Alonzo Johnson when gold and silver was discovered here. It drains into the Colorado River at the former site of Nelson's Landing. The town of Nelson lies in the upper reach of the canyon. Eldorado Canyon Mine Tours operates mid way in the canyon at the Techatticup Mine one of the oldest and most productive mines in the canyon. Prospecting and mining in the El Dorado Canyon had been going on from at least 1857 if not earlier. But in April 1861, as the American Civil War began, word got out that silver and some gold and copper lodes had been discovered by John Moss and others in what became known as El Dorado Canyon, in New Mexico Territory, now Nevada. The canyon was on the west side of the river sixty five miles above Fort Mohave at what was then considered the limit of navigation of the river. George A. Johnson came up river and made a deal to supply the mines with his steamboats at a lower price than that provided overland across the Mohave Desert from Los Angeles. That fall news of the strikes in the Colorado Mining District, (by 1864 also called the Eldorado Canyon District), brought a flood of miners to the canyon. Several mining camps were founded in the canyon over the years. At the beginning San Juan, or Upper Camp were at the top of the canyon miles from the river near the modern town of Nelson. Midway down the canyon near the Techatticup Mine were Alturas and Louisville. At the mouth of the canyon was the boat landing of Colorado City. During the time of the American Civil War, three new mining camps developed in the middle canyon. In 1862, Lucky Jim Camp was formed along Eldorado Canyon above January Wash, south of the Techatticup Mine. Lucky Jim Camp was the home of miners sympathetic to the Confederate cause. A mile up the canyon was a camp with Union sympathies called Buster Falls. In late 1863, Col. John R. Vineyard, at the time a California State Senator for Los Angeles, completed a ten stamp mill the first in the canyon, on its north side just below Lucky Jim Camp, at what soon became El Dorado City. Vineyard's mill, assembled from mill parts salvaged from abandoned works in the Mother Lode country of California, processed the ore of its mines and cut out the cost of shipping the ore out to San Francisco for such processing, cutting costs in half. George Alonzo Johnson's steamboat company losing this downstream ore trade and making fewer trips up to the Canyon responded by raising its freight rates. From 1865 to 1867 as part of Mohave County, Arizona Territory, El Dorado Canyon had its own post office. In 1867, to secure the riverboat traffic and protect miners in the canyon from Paiute attacks the U.S. Army established Camp El Dorado, an outpost at the mouth of El Dorado Canyon that remained until it was abandoned in 1869. From 1870 the mines again were active to the point where from 1879 to 1907 El Dorado Canyon again had a post office, now in Clark County, Nevada. The mines continued to produce ore until World War II.
Avon Park is a city in Highlands County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 census the population was 8,836, and in 2018 the estimated population was 10,695. It is the oldest city in Highlands County, and was named after Stratford-upon-Avon, England.
The first permanent settler in Avon Park was Oliver Martin Crosby, a Connecticut native who moved to the area in 1884 to study the wildlife of the Everglades. By 1886, enough people had followed that the town of "Lake Forest" was founded. As president of the Florida Development Company, he recruited settlers to the area, many of whom were from England, including many from the town of Stratford-upon-Avon, who gave the town its name.
In 2006, then-mayor Thomas Macklin proposed City Ordinance 08-06, which would have blocked the issuance or renewal of city licenses to businesses that hired illegal aliens, fined any property owner who rented and leased property to illegal aliens, and established English as the city's official language, banning the use of other languages during the conduct of official business except where specified under state or federal law. The ordinance was defeated by the city council, on a 3–2 vote.
Avon Park is located in northwestern Highlands County at 27°35′40″N 81°30′12″W (27.594418, -81.503437). 27/98 is the main highway through the city, leading north 23 miles (37 km) to Lake Wales and south 10 miles (16 km) to Sebring. Florida State Road 17 (Main Street) leads east through the center of Avon Park, then south 10 miles to the center of Sebring. Florida State Road 64 leads west from Avon Park 19 miles (31 km) to Zolfo Springs.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Avon Park has a total area of 8.2 square miles (21.2 km2), of which 7.1 square miles (18.5 km2) are land and 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2), or 12.43%, are water.[3] The city is located in a karst landscape underlain by the limestone Florida Platform, and numerous circular lakes are either within the city limits (Lake Tulane, Lake Verona, and Lake Isis) or border the city (Lake Anoka, Lake Lelia, Lake Glenada, Lake Lotela, Lake Denton, Little Red Water Lake, Pioneer Lake, Lake Brentwood, Lake Byrd, Lake Damon, and Lake Lillian).

Mondim de Basto é um município português pertencente ao Distrito de Vila Real, região Norte. É um município com 171,87 km² de área, subdividido em 8 freguesias. O município é limitado a nordeste pelo município de Ribeira de Pena, a sueste por Vila Real, a sudoeste por Amarante, a oeste por Celorico de Basto e a noroeste por Cabeceiras de Basto.
Vila e sede de concelho, Mondim de Basto repousa numa chã fértil na margem esquerda do rio Tâmega e no sopé da grandiosa pirâmide verde do Monte Farinha, coroado pela ermida da Senhora da Graça.

Bilbao (en euskera: Bilbo) es un municipio situado en el norte de España y una villa de dicho municipio, capital de la provincia y territorio histórico de Vizcaya, en la comunidad autónoma del País Vasco. La villa de Bilbao es la capital y única localidad del municipio, y con 346.903 habitantes en 2024, es la urbe más poblada de la comunidad autónoma, siendo la cabecera del área metropolitana de Bilbao, una conurbación de más de 1 000 000 de habitantes que se extiende a lo largo de la ría de Bilbao o del Nervión.
El municipio se encuentra flanqueado por dos cadenas montañosas, con una altitud media que no supera los 400 metros, y que forman algunos de sus límites naturales. Limita con Erandio, Sondica, Zamudio, Galdácano, Echévarri, Basauri, Arrigorriaga, Alonsótegui y Baracaldo.
Desde su fundación, a finales del siglo XIII, fue un enclave comercial que gozó de particular importancia en la cornisa Cantábrica gracias a los privilegios concedidos por la Corona de Castilla que permitieron el desarrollo de una gran actividad portuaria que se basaba principalmente en la exportación de la lana procedente de Castilla y en menor medida del hierro extraído de las canteras vizcaínas. A lo largo del siglo XIX y principios del XX experimentó una fuerte industrialización que la convirtió en el epicentro de la segunda región industrializada de España, por detrás de Barcelona. Esta estuvo acompañada de una extraordinaria explosión demográfica y urbanística que originó la anexión de varios municipios colindantes. En la actualidad es una pujante ciudad de servicios, que se encuentra en un proceso de revitalización estética, social y económica liderado por el simbólico Museo Guggenheim Bilbao.
El 19 de mayo de 2010, la ciudad de Bilbao fue reconocida con el premio Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize, otorgado por la ciudad estado de Singapur. Considerado el Nobel del urbanismo, fue entregado el 29 de junio de 2010. El 7 de enero de 2013, su alcalde, Iñaki Azkuna, recibió el Premio Alcalde del Mundo correspondiente a 2012 que otorga cada dos años la fundación británica The City Mayors Foundation, en reconocimiento a la transformación urbana experimentada por la capital vizcaína desde la década de 1990. The town of Bilbao is the capital and only locality of the municipality, and with 346,903 inhabitants in 2024, it is the most populated city in the autonomous community, being the head of the metropolitan area of Bilbao, a conurbation of more than 1,000,000 inhabitants. which extends along the Bilbao or Nervión estuary.
The municipality is flanked by two mountain ranges, with an average altitude that does not exceed 400 meters, and which form some of its natural limits. It borders with Erandio, Sondica, Zamudio, Galdácano, Echévarri, Basauri, Arrigorriaga, Alonsótegui and Baracaldo.
Since its foundation, at the end of the 13th century, it was a commercial enclave that enjoyed particular importance on the Cantabrian coast thanks to the privileges granted by the Crown of Castile that allowed the development of a large port activity that was based mainly on export. from the wool from Castile and to a lesser extent from the iron extracted from the Biscayan quarries. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries it experienced strong industrialization that made it the epicenter of the second industrialized region of Spain, behind Barcelona. This was accompanied by an extraordinary demographic and urban explosion that led to the annexation of several neighboring municipalities. Currently it is a thriving city of services, which is in a process of aesthetic, social and economic revitalization led by the symbolic Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.
On May 19, 2010, the city of Bilbao was recognized with the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize, awarded by the city state of Singapore. Considered the Nobel Prize for urban planning, it was awarded on June 29, 2010. On January 7, 2013, its mayor, Iñaki Azkuna, received the World Mayor Award for 2012, awarded every two years by the British foundation The City Mayors Foundation. , in recognition of the urban transformation experienced by the Biscayan capital since the 1990s. On November 8, 2017, Bilbao was chosen as the Best European City 2018 at The Urbanism Awards 2018, awarded by the international organization The Academy of Urbanism .

Après la remise en service commercial des deux motrices historiques Mirage sans arriver à exploiter les lignes avec les convois prévus, une (nouvelle) rupture d'un cardan de transmission sur une motrice Cobra (Be 5/6 3001-3088) en date du 24 décembre 2018 (!) a nécessité trois mois plus tard (!) des mesures d'urgence en vigueur dès le 22 mars 2019 pour une durée indéterminée:
1) réduction de la vitesse maximale des Cobra à 42 km/h et 12 km/h sur les appareils de voie
2) pour limiter sectoriellement les retards attribution des Cobra aux lignes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 13 et 17.
Les autres lignes, y compris les lignes 10 et 12 du Glattalbahn, sont exploitées avec des convois Tram 2000 sans garantie d'accès surbaissé.
De plus, à partir du 1 janvier 2019 et avec une arrogance toute zürichoise, des mangers des VBZ ont imposé unilatéralement au TMZ l'immobilisation de pas moins de cinq motrices historiques sous le prétexte fallacieux de délai de révision. C'est faire bien peu de cas du sérieux du travail exécuté depuis plus de cinquante ans par les membres actifs du TMZ.
Si ces bureaucrates ne sont pas en mesure de comprendre la logique différence entre un simple contrôle technique et une inutile révision sur des véhicules en parfait état budgetée à un prix exorbitant ils n'ont certainement pas les compétences requises pour occuper leur poste et ils devraient être poussés vers la sortie par tous les moyens légaux disponibles!
La motrice historique Be 4/6 1674 en service régulier sur la ligne 8 précède l'autobus Neoplan 521 de la ligne 83.

Viaje de 8 días por Ethiopia. Empezamos por el Norte, el desierto, la Depresión de Danakil, el lugar más caluroso del planeta, dominado por la etnia Afar, para posteriormente bajar al Sur, la sabana, verde, el Valle del Rio Omo, visitando diferentes etnias: Dorze, Konso, Dassanech y Hamer. Extenuante pero corto, muy corto.
Ethiopia (Abisinia, el Reino de Saba en la Biblia) es un lugar inhóspito y no preparado para el turismo y debes contar con una agencia que organice tu aventura (yo fui con Karibu, www.kaett.com). Ethiopia limita con países en conflicto y en los desplazamientos por el Norte, el desierto, Danakil, estarás acompañado por policía o milicianos armados, además de guía, cocinero, pinche y conductores.
Primer día, llegamos mi mujer y yo, a primeros de Mayo, época no turística debido al calor, a Addis Ababa, con Ethiopian Airlines, para enlazar con un vuelo regional a Makele. En Makele montamos en 4x4 para desplazarnos a Dallol, zona desértica con temperaturas de noche 26 y día 45ºC. Dormimos de acampada, al aire libre sobre camastros, junto con todos nuestros acompañantes, el viento y millones de estrellas. El calor, agobiante, Mayo no es el mejor mes para visitar Danakil. Antes de dormir vislumbramos las caravanas de camellos trasportando la sal depositada en el desierto al secarse un mar interior miles de años atrás. También visitamos las salinas infinitas, disfrutamos de una puesta de Sol con reflejos, única.
El segundo día visitamos la Puerta del Infierno, una zona donde la tierra expulsa compuestos de azufre continuamente y donde se han generado unos cráteres freáticos únicos en el mundo, de una extraordinaria belleza y colorido. Andábamos sobre cristales de azufre y óxidos metálicos que crujían bajo nuestros pies. Al terminar la jornada las zapatillas habían pasado a mejor vida. Siempre acompañados por un Kalashnikova AK 47. Llegar hasta allí en un 4x4 sobre las salinas infinitas, con 20 cm de agua sobre la superficie y a 10 km/h durante 2 o 3 hrs, sin llegar nunca, sin ver fondo bajo las ruedas, es uno de los muchos gratos recuerdos que nos ha proporcionado esta superaventura. Más tarde visitamos a los Afar durante su trabajo diario, cortar bloques de sal de 30x40x8 cm que se cargarán sobre los camellos para transportarlos en caravanas infinitas. Aquí todo es infinito. Trabajan bajo un Sol abrasador, pero aunque el Gobierno les ofrece mecanizar la explotación, los Afar no lo permiten, temen perder su forma de vida. Ya no sé dónde dormimos, quizás en Dodhom, donde mataron un cabrito para cenar.
El tercer día pretendíamos subir por la noche al Erta Ale, volcán activo con una caldera de magma en ebullición. Al llegar al campo base para gestionar permisos y más y más acompañantes, las temperaturas habían subido a 52ºC. Esta es la zona más caliente de la Tierra y el espesor de la corteza terrestre es el más estrecho de todos los continentes. De hecho esta es la zona del Rift, donde el cuerno de África se escindirá del continente en algunos miles de años. Estamos 110m por debajo del nivel del mar. Mi mujer sufrió un pequeño golpe de calor mientras tratábamos de comer algo a 52ºC y por prudencia descartamos subir al Arte Ale, lo dejamos, o mejor dicho, lo dejaré para un próximo viaje. Se suben 10Km andando por la noche durante unas 4 horas y se duerme en la caldera, tomando fotos del magma durante la noche, para bajar a primera hora de la mañana, antes de que el Sol abrase.. Así las cosas, decidimos volver a Makele (necesitábamos hotel y descanso) pero de camino visitamos un pequeño lago encantador, quizás el lago Bakili, junto a las salinas, dado que el cambio de planes no nos permitiría ya visitar el Lago Afdera de aguas color esmeralda.
El cuarto día, improvisando, desde Makele hicimos una visita a una de las miles iglesias en Ethiopia excavadas en la roca, donde el prior nos abrió y atendió con sumo cariño, y posteriormente visitamos la Misión del Padre Ángel, amigo Vasco que realiza una labor extraordinaria en la zona. El Padre Ángel (www. Angelolaran.com) aparenta muchos más años de los que tiene, eso es debido sin duda a una larga vida de sufrimiento. Nos invitó a comer en la misión pero tuvimos que descartarlo para volver a Makele y tomar vuelo a Addis Ababa, también queda pendiente para un próximo viaje. A la vuelta enviamos un donativo a la Misión, ese país y Ángel necesitan de toda nuestra ayuda.
Quinto día, desde Addis Ababa tomamos un 4x4 para desplazarnos hacia el Sur, rico en Etnias, poblados, tribus, que nos iban a enamorar. Ni que decir tiene que a estas alturas ya me había convertido en un maestro de la fotografía en desplazamiento, a 80 Km/h en 4x4 se obtienen, a 1/2000s, unas fotografías impagables, las carreteras están llenas de vida y de color. Por la tarde llegamos a Arba Minch, donde habitan los Dorze, a una cota de 3.200m , en sus casas de bambú. Las chozas, de unos 40m2 pueden incluso transportarse con ayuda de 60 personas cuando las termitas se comen la base de sus troncos. Tienen la apariencia de la cabeza de un elefante. Esa noche dormimos en el Paradise Lodge, recomendable, en una cabaña con vistas a los lagos Abaya y Chamo. Estábamos muertos, no hice fotos de la vía láctea y no me lo perdonaré nunca, pero conseguí unos amaneceres únicos.
Sexto día, de nuevo en 4x4 y 1/2000s. Nos desplazamos a las tierras altas donde habita la Etnia Konso, en el rio Segen. Los Konso son la tribu más organizada y han sido reconocidos como Patrimonio de la Humanidad por Unesco. Un ejemplo, la piedra de la verdad, donde ante el Consejo del Pueblo ningún vecino se atrevería a mentir influenciado por un temor ancestral a sufrir los peores males como consecuencia de mentir mientras se está de pie sobre esa piedra. La visita a su poblado es indescriptible, una sociedad muy avanzada con un nivel jerárquico bien asumido y una socialización envidiable. Después, desplazamiento a la zona de Turmi, donde empezamos a cruzarnos con los Hamer, pintados con barro en el pelo y acompañados de collares de conchas. Dormimos en el Busca Lodge, con generador eléctrico que arranca de 6 a 9, eso sí, por la mañana y por la noche.
Séptimo día, cruzando el rio Omo en piragua (tronco de árbol vaciado) para visitar a los nómadas Dassanech. ¡Qué encanto!. Nos recibieron con sus bailes y pasamos la mañana de su mano, sí, nos llevaban de la mano mientras nos enseñaban su poblado. Sus poblados se caracterizan por el uso de chapa de lata para cubrir sus chozas, ese material que les han traído los Dioses les permite que la vida de su choza se alargue por varios años, además de mantenerlas secas, maravillas de la tecnología. Unos globos y caramelos son el regalo más apreciado por los niños. Por la tarde visita al mercado de Turmi, donde los Hamer y otras tribus se dan cita para intercambiar sus productos (grano, ganado, madera trabajada,...). Más tarde, casi a la puesta de Sol visitamos un poblado Hamer. De chozas con vallado para los animales. Igual de encantadores que los Dassenech, solo nos atendieron los niños, los adultos vienen andando desde el mercado de Turmi. Los niños te piden 5 Birs por cada foto que les haces (íbamos armados con fajos de billetes de 5, claro), el capitalismo está llegando para quedarse. Sonrisas y bromas continuamente, inolvidable. De nuevo al hotel con acotado horario para la ducha.
Octavo día, 4x4 a Arba Minch y vuelo regional a Addis Ababa, con shopping y cena étnica para tomar vuelo de nuevo para Madrid (Ida y vuelta nocturna).
Algún bajón de tensión, golpes de calor, catarros por el A/A del 4x4, diarrea (posiblemente el contacto con los billetes viejos contaminados con todo tipo de gérmenes), pero desde ya, contando ansioso los días que faltan para volver de nuevo. Bendita África pura.

I've taken dozens of this sort of photos, but only a few are what I hoped for. It really is difficult when not all conditions are perfect.
Like in 2017 (see my album) I have been to the Czech Republic with friends, in their old Skodas. It was a great trip, with days filled with Skoda and more Skoda. (and some culture, food and beer, but I'll limit myself to car pictures for this account)

Un ejemplo, la piedra de la verdad, donde ante el Consejo del Pueblo ningún vecino se atrevería a mentir influenciado por un temor ancestral a sufrir los peores males como consecuencia de mentir mientras se está de pie sobre esa piedra. La visita a su poblado es indescriptible, una sociedad muy avanzada con un nivel jerárquico bien asumido y una socialización envidiable. Después, desplazamiento a la zona de Turmi, donde empezamos a cruzarnos con los Hamer, pintados con barro en el pelo y acompañados de collares de conchas. Dormimos en el Busca Lodge, con generador eléctrico que arranca de 6 a 9, eso sí, por la mañana y por la noche.
Séptimo día, cruzando el rio Omo en piragua (tronco de árbol vaciado) para visitar a los nómadas Dassanech. ¡Qué encanto!. Nos recibieron con sus bailes y pasamos la mañana de su mano, sí, nos llevaban de la mano mientras nos enseñaban su poblado. Sus poblados se caracterizan por el uso de chapa de lata para cubrir sus chozas, ese material que les han traído los Dioses les permite que la vida de su choza se alargue por varios años, además de mantenerlas secas, maravillas de la tecnología. Unos globos y caramelos son el regalo más apreciado por los niños. Por la tarde visita al mercado de Turmi, donde los Hamer y otras tribus se dan cita para intercambiar sus productos (grano, ganado, madera trabajada,...). Más tarde, casi a la puesta de Sol visitamos un poblado Hamer. De chozas con vallado para los animales. Igual de encantadores que los Dassenech, solo nos atendieron los niños, los adultos vienen andando desde el mercado de Turmi. Los niños te piden 5 Birs por cada foto que les haces (íbamos armados con fajos de billetes de 5, claro), el capitalismo está llegando para quedarse. Sonrisas y bromas continuamente, inolvidable. De nuevo al hotel con acotado horario para la ducha.
Octavo día, 4x4 a Arba Minch y vuelo regional a Addis Ababa, con shopping y cena étnica para tomar vuelo de nuevo para Madrid (Ida y vuelta nocturna).
Algún bajón de tensión, golpes de calor, catarros por el A/A del 4x4, diarrea (posiblemente el contacto con los billetes viejos contaminados con todo tipo de gérmenes), pero desde ya, contando ansioso los días que faltan para volver de nuevo. Bendita África pura.

Avon Park is a city in Highlands County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 census the population was 8,836, and in 2018 the estimated population was 10,695. It is the oldest city in Highlands County, and was named after Stratford-upon-Avon, England.
The first permanent settler in Avon Park was Oliver Martin Crosby, a Connecticut native who moved to the area in 1884 to study the wildlife of the Everglades. By 1886, enough people had followed that the town of "Lake Forest" was founded. As president of the Florida Development Company, he recruited settlers to the area, many of whom were from England, including many from the town of Stratford-upon-Avon, who gave the town its name.
In 2006, then-mayor Thomas Macklin proposed City Ordinance 08-06, which would have blocked the issuance or renewal of city licenses to businesses that hired illegal aliens, fined any property owner who rented and leased property to illegal aliens, and established English as the city's official language, banning the use of other languages during the conduct of official business except where specified under state or federal law. The ordinance was defeated by the city council, on a 3–2 vote.
Avon Park is located in northwestern Highlands County at 27°35′40″N 81°30′12″W (27.594418, -81.503437). 27/98 is the main highway through the city, leading north 23 miles (37 km) to Lake Wales and south 10 miles (16 km) to Sebring. Florida State Road 17 (Main Street) leads east through the center of Avon Park, then south 10 miles to the center of Sebring. Florida State Road 64 leads west from Avon Park 19 miles (31 km) to Zolfo Springs.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Avon Park has a total area of 8.2 square miles (21.2 km2), of which 7.1 square miles (18.5 km2) are land and 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2), or 12.43%, are water.[3] The city is located in a karst landscape underlain by the limestone Florida Platform, and numerous circular lakes are either within the city limits (Lake Tulane, Lake Verona, and Lake Isis) or border the city (Lake Anoka, Lake Lelia, Lake Glenada, Lake Lotela, Lake Denton, Little Red Water Lake, Pioneer Lake, Lake Brentwood, Lake Byrd, Lake Damon, and Lake Lillian).

Thanksgiving is always a special time of year for Audrey. As leader of the Ladies Bible Study* and song leader,** Audrey reflects on the blessings of God and updates her journal.
Journal Entry November 24
"Today I had agreed to ride with Baila to the bookstore so we could pick out some gifts. She also wanted to chat after a recent disappointment with a fellow she had gone out with.*** The only concern when going somewhere with Baila is when she drives. Baila has an old 1962 Austin Healy convertible that I see no value in, but she thinks is the most delightful auto in Paprihaven. The car seems barely held together and I sat in the passenger seat with continual images going through my mind of the machine falling apart around us. Today as usual it was a rather teeth-clenching ride through the streets of Paprihaven as she worked the stick shift. There seemed to be an awful amount of grinding in the gears but Baila said 'that keeps them shiny.'
I did note however, that she was careful to obey all of the traffic laws and speed limits. Further, as her details of the fellow's motivations and general behavior became clear, I began to think of the Holy Spirit's gift of self-control. We are immortal souls in a vessel of carnal flesh. When God saves us, we receive spiritual life. We become completely different. "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come." Our thinking and attitudes become different. "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect."
But our vessel of flesh remains corrupted. "For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh" For this reason, even as we enjoy life in the liberty of Christ that has set us free, as Christians we must always be on guard against our flesh. "For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace" I appreciated how Baila demonstrated that joy of life while being careful to honor God in all that she does.
For God's gift of self control, I give thanks today."

Moscú (en ruso, Москва, /mɐˈskva/ transliterado como Moskvá) es la capital y la entidad federal más poblada de Rusia. La ciudad es un importante centro político, económico, cultural y científico de Rusia y del continente. Moscú es la megaciudad más septentrional de la Tierra, la segunda ciudad de Europa en población después de Estambul, y la sexta del mundo. Su población es de 12 108 257 habitantes. By its territorial expansion on July 1 2012 southwest into the Moscow Oblast, the area of the capital more than doubled, going from 1,091 to 2,511 square kilometers (421 to 970 sq mi), resulting in Moscow becoming the largest city on the European continent by area; it also gained an additional population of 233,000 people.
Moscow is situated on the Moskva River in the Central Federal District of European Russia, making it Europe's most populated inland city. The city is well known for its architecture, particularly its historic buildings such as Saint Basil's Cathedral with its colourful architectural style. With over 40 percent of its territory covered by greenery, it is one of the greenest capitals and major cities in Europe and the world, having the largest forest in an urban area within its borders—more than any other major city—even before its expansion in 2012. The city has served as the capital of a progression of states, from the medieval Grand Duchy of Moscow and the subsequent Tsardom of Russia to the Russian Empire to the Soviet Union and the contemporary Russian Federation.
Moscow is the seat of power of the Government of Russia, being the site of the Moscow Kremlin, a medieval city-fortress that is today the residence for work of the President of Russia. The Moscow Kremlin and Red Square are also one of several World Heritage Sites in the city. Both chambers of the Russian parliament (the State Duma and the Federation Council) also sit in the city. Moscow is considered the centre of Russian culture, having served as the home of Russian artists, scientists and sports figures and because of the presence of museums, academic and political institutions and theatres.
The city is served by a transit network, which includes four international airports, nine railway terminals, numerous trams, a monorail system and one of the deepest underground rapid transit systems in the world, the Moscow Metro, the fourth-largest in the world and largest outside Asia in terms of passenger numbers, and the busiest in Europe. It is recognised as one of the city's landmarks due to the rich architecture of its 200 stations.
